Meet Melissa

Hi there! I am Melissa Lichtenberger (she/her).

You have already taken the first step towards healing. I would love to walk beside you on your continued steps forward.

I understand that past experiences and societal messages can impact a your self-worth and overall enjoyment in life. My passion lies in helping clients discover the beauty within and surrounding their everyday lives.

I am licensed eligible therapist, specializing in therapy for tweens, teens, and adults dealing with anxiety, depression, body image issues, and disordered eating patterns.

When I'm not spending time with my two daughters, husband, and Greyhound rescue, Norris, I enjoy fossil-hunting and painting.

My background in fine art has led me to incorporate art in my work with clients as often as possible.

Along with Art Therapy, I utilize CBT, Trauma-Focused CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, Sand Tray Therapy, and Play Therapy to nurture clients on their healing journey.

I am committed to fighting diet culture and its harmful effects on humans, therefore I follow anti-diet approaches.

I will aid you in developing resiliency within various life circumstances; while providing support as you discover and build upon your internal strengths.

I see each person as valuable and valid. I am skilled in working with people identifying with any sexuality, gender, race, and faith.

I am comfortable providing therapy from a Christian-lense if desired, but do not impose these beliefs upon any client.

What is a Licensed Eligible Therapist?

Licensed eligible therapists are professionals that can offer mental health therapy. They are individuals that are actively pursuing credentialing as a licensed therapist. There are various titles for licensed eligible therapists, dependent on their Master's degree. Specifically, Melissa Lichtenberger is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (RMHCI).

RMHCI's are individuals that are actively pursuing the credentialing of Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). RMHCI's must have a Master's degree from a mental health counseling program with specific graduate level coursework and practicum hours, and obtain clinical experience and qualified supervision.

While there are a variety of credentials that allow a professional to provide mental health therapy, the differences are in education and training. The mental health counseling framework is a holistic mental health process with attention to contextual influences on a client's life. It focuses on the strengths and wellness of the person, identification of their individual stressors and level of functioning, and preservation or restoration of their mental health.
